The maths is simple. A standard espresso dose is 7g to 9g, and a double is 16g to 18g. A 1kg bag therefore gives you roughly 55 to 62 doubles, or 110 to 140 singles. Divide your price per kilo by that number and you have your bean cost per cup. At £18 a kilo on doubles, that is about 30p; at £14 a kilo on singles, about 11p.
Then add the parts people forget: milk (a flat white uses roughly 150ml, so around 12p to 18p), cups and lids if you use them, water filtration, cleaning chemicals, servicing, and machine finance if you lease. Those extras are usually where a cheap sounding contract becomes an expensive one.
